# Update a tax

> Partially update a tax using JSON Merge Patch.

`PATCH /rest/api/taxes/{id}`

Updates the Tax resource.

Partially updates a tax. The body is a [JSON Merge Patch](https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc7396) document: include only the fields you want to change, such as the `rate`, `name` or `description`.

> **Effect on offers**
>
> Offers reference a tax rather than copy its rate, so changing the `rate` here updates the tax-included price computed for every offer that points at this tax.
