# Create a channel

> Create a new channel.

`POST /rest/api/channels`

Creates a Channel resource.

Creates a channel in the current organization. Give it a `name` and a `status`, and optionally assign `products` to it in the same call.

> **Staging a channel**
>
> Create the channel in `draft` first, assign your assortment, then promote it to `active` once you're ready to sell on it.
